3 Reasons to Start Thrifting

I have to thank my mom for introducing me to thrift shopping. Ever since I was little she would take me along to places like Housing Works, Goodwill and Salvation Army. I didn't enjoy it as much when I was younger, but now thrifting might be my favorite way to shop!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL FIND

Thrift shops are filled with treasures, some hidden and some not. I personally really enjoy the feeling of looking through every rack to find that one treasure. You might end up finding something by an expensive designer or something extremely unique, you never know!

IT'S GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Shopping at thrift shops is like recycling in a way. Many fast fashion retailers such as Forever 21 produce so much merchandise and a lot of it gets thrown away once they've gone out of style. The average person throws away 54 pounds of clothes each year and most of it is not biodegradable. So not only should you shop thrift, but also donate your clothes instead of throwing them in the trash!

LOW PRICES

Prices at different thrift stores can vary, but all of them are much lower than buying brand new. I managed to score a pair of silk Derek Lam pants for $4! They were a bit big, but I adjusted the waist and length to fit. When I go thrifting I usually don't find myself spending over $10 or $12 on a single item.
